From 1 July 2013 gasfitting in New Zealand was classified into one of three formal risk-based categories – low-risk, high-risk and general work. Calls to the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB) regarding associated gasfitting certificates have indicated that there is some confusion on which type of certificate needs to be filed. All gasfitting work requires certification.

To further assist, together with Energy Safety, the PGDB has developed a resource to help point you in the right direction. There is now a simple flowchart to guide tradespeople in the decision making process here https://www.pgdb.co.nz/trade/info-for-gasfitters.html.
