Cowboys lookout! They’re coming t’ get cha!

Building sites in Auckland are being scrutinised for illegal practices in plumbing and gasfitting with authorities believing the building boom is causing the trade to cut corners and use unlicensed tradespeople.

While illegal plumbing and gasfitting may seem a cheap option to some, it can prove costly (and potentially dangerous) with fines up to $10,000 for plumbing and up to $50,000 for gasfitting!

As stuff.co.nz reports, the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board has prosecuted 20 operators in the region for working unlawfully. The board is running a consumer campaign to urge property owners to “ask for the card” – the licence card that everyone authorised to undertake plumbing, gasfitting or drainlaying work must carry.

It’s a serious business. The regulations are in place for good reason… nobody should be put at risk (physically or financially) because a developer or landlord wants to save a couple of extra bucks on a project. Auckland Plumbers Group tradespeople are qualified for any work undertaken… remember to “ask for the card”.
